Walking the Earth — David’s Song

In memory of David Michot.

Was walkin’ the earth,
Walkin’ what I could see.
Was walkin’ the earth—
Now I’m walkin’ the Great Mystery.

Heard a bird in the darkness,
Heard my name in the rain.
Turned around to find nobody—
Heard it call me again.

Was walkin’ the earth,
Walkin’ what I could see.
Was walkin’ the earth—
Now I’m walkin’ the Great Mystery.

Maybe I finally woke up.
Maybe I’m still in the dream.
River just keeps on rollin’—
Carryin’ things I ain’t seen.

Was walkin’ the earth,
Walkin’ what I could see.
Was walkin’ the earth—
Now I’m walkin’ the Great Mystery.

In memory of David

When I heard David Michot had passed away, I was immediately transported back to the years when I met him in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. This song was my first heartfelt reaction to the loss of this free-spirited fellow—a hero to those drawn to human adventure. Those who knew David will immediately understand the title, Walking the Earth. Along with his great curiosity, David possessed something even more important: a deep-seated spirit of goodwill toward others.

I’m keeping David’s song here in the restricted area on WBRD for anyone who felt close to David to come, listen, and spend a little time thinking about him.
